Tyler J. Engel - Director of Bands, Marching Band Director
Tyler Engel was selected to join the Westmoreland County Pubic Schools in 2016 where the W&L Eagle Band and the Washington and Lee High School Concert Band are both under his direction. He was born and raised in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, just 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh, where he attended the Canon McMillan School District. His passion for music really came to fruition in middle school. His middle school band director, Michael Caporizzo, is the reason he decided to become a Music Educator. After graduating from Canon McMillan, he chose to attend Grove City College. During his time at Grove City he decided to commit himself to the many instrumental ensembles available and because of that commitment and dedication he was chosen as a leader in many of those ensembles. He was selected as the student conductor of the Grove City College Symphonic Orchestra, earned the position of Drum Major for the Grove City College Wolverine Marching Band, and chosen as the student director for the Grove City College Jazz Band two years in a row.
In his second year at W&L, Mr. Engel plans to push the band program even harder than before. The repertoire will push his students to become better musicians and appreciate their talents and abilities even more. More opportunities will be presented to students to supplement their own learning and try new things in new ways. He cannot wait to really get into the school year and push the Eagle Band to become one of the premier band programs in the Northern Neck!
